Why I’ve Decided on It

After years of neglect to my personal website, I’ve decided that a much needed fresh restart on my site is much needed. I’ve originally planned this for quite some time but i believe the time is near.

There are four main reasons why i believe a restart is much needed.

1. Svelte 4 and its vulnerabilities

Svelte 4 ended servicing on the 19th of October 2024, meaning it no longer receives security and quality updates from its developers. Of course, this causes it to pile on vulnerabilities as its requirements are also frozen in time. This restart is aimed to solve this issue by building on the much more updated Svelte 5.

2. No longer happy with the design

Version 3 was built early when I was learning HTML CSS JavaScript (in this case, TypeScript). I believe this site has served its purpose in teaching me frontend (and a bit of backend) development. But I believe I can do better with how I put this website together, from its CSS to its code.

3. Sub-optimal accessibility

The website was initially built without accessibility put in mind. It was then implemented in a rather patchwork manner after an audit performed by Beeps. I believe it’s best practice to plan accessibility from the very beginning.

4. Ideas appearing

A lot of ideas on how V4 will be has been appearing lately. I’ve been wanting to actually implement them but I haven’t gotten enough time to actually begin.

What Will Be on The New Version?

1. An updated fursonas page

I recently made a new fursona, Gwynn. I will be incorporating her in the new website, which also means the entire fursona page design will be revamped.

2. Booru style gallery with tag searching

As my gallery grows, it will eventually get hard to search for specific images in my websites gallery. Searching becomes an absolute need.

3. A more expressive layout

The new version will feature a more fun, more welcoming, and more customized layout. While the layout and theme for most pages will be the same for coherence, special pages will be designed with much more artistic liberty. This also means thematic pages for projects I will work on.

4. Updated theme and color scheme

The color scheme of the website will be updated for dark and light mode selectability as well as based on the taste progression of me.

This website has been a passion project of me for quite some time and it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of many people (and critters).

This article marks the end of major updates to Kraaftersite V3. Small QoL updates may still happen after that but it will fully stop once I make a temporary “V4 Under Construction” site.
